Cosmetic Procedures for Youthful Skin

The market for anti aging and skin care is a billion dollar industry.  Consumers are putting a premium on their skin and investing in products and services to stay as youthful looking as possible for as long as possible.  The baby boomer generation is largely to thank for this phenomenon as they have been key players to stimulate and keep the anti aging industry growing.  Technology has come a long way even in the last few decades, from the introduction of Botox in the 1990’s to today’s advanced lasers and cutting edge skin care.  With the help of these products and procedures, it is now more possible than ever to not look one’s age, sometimes by several decades.  Patients often ask for advice on what products and procedures to try, and while it may be tempting to say “everything!”, we have streamlined a few of our top recommendations to keep skin at its best and most youthful state possible.

First, it should be noted that while technology has come a very long way, there is still nothing currently available that is a “one time fix.”  Skin care is constant upkeep, just as are workout sessions to fitness buffs.  To achieve significant and lasting results, one must practice regular, routine skin maintenance.  This begins at home, with the use of medical grade skin care that is selected for the patient by a trained professional based on their individual needs.  A healthy lifestyle also lends the way to a healthy body and skin.  The overall health of the skin is boosted by maintaining a good diet, exercising regularly, and getting plenty of sleep (not to mention staying out of the sun and not smoking).

Skin care procedures, from injectables, laser, and surgery, give best results when practiced regularly.  Of course, large surgical operations are meant to yield long term results, and most people do not plan to undergo facelift surgery every year.  Injectables like Botox, Dysport and Xeomin typically last 3-4 months, and regular maintenance is needed to extend the effects of these products.  Fillers such as Juvederm may last up to 9 months, and again necessitate repeat treatments.  Laser treatments vary in the longevity of the results.  Normally, procedures with several days or weeks of downtime yield longer lasting results; thus, procedures such as fractionated CO2 (i.e. Cutera Pearl) lasers produce such substantial results that they only need to be done every few years, if that.  Less aggressive laser treatments such Laser Genesis that have no downtime give best results when performed in periodic but regular series.

It is exciting to watch the changes in aesthetic medicine and observe the new technologies that emerge over time.  Presently, many effective treatment options exist for patients who wish to “turn back the clock” or prevent premature aging.  Patients are realizing more than ever that dedication to skin care maintenance must become integrated in their lifestyle, and not solely be a passing phase.  As we have observed, those who are committed to their skin health certainly see the rewards of their lifestyle choices over time.  Let the experts at Kalos help with you accomplish your skin care goals by customizing a long term treatment plan that will fit with your lifestyle and schedule.
