The holiday season is a popular time for celebrations. It also is a time when people might consider ways to improve their appearance due to the higher likelihood of being around large groups of festive friends and more photo opportunities that might potentially be posted. Social media is a great way to connect, but it also adds pressure to look good at all times just in case someone decides to snap a picture.
With increased pressures to look good, it can be tempting to try to take matters into your own hands and experiment with products and procedures that boast grand results at a lower cost and minimal time. In a recent submission to Reader’s Digest, Dr. Stong places a strong warning against scams that involve cosmetic treatments.
Dr. Stong’s Warning Against Cosmetic Scams
“Dr. Stong suggests that ‘people not waste their time, money and potentially their health on scam cosmetic treatment offers like lasers that they use at home or facial creams that supposedly include ground up diamonds. There is absolutely no scientific proof whatsoever that these products work and yet people spend millions of dollars on them every year and get their hopes way up and then are severely disappointed. Basically, they are scammed. If somebody is interested in getting cosmetic improvements then they should visit an actual doctor who can provide them with actual treatments that will actually help.”
Too Good To Be True
Dr. Jane Liedtka, a dermatologist at the FDA addresses the issue of attempting to choose products over professional treatments. Her sentiment is; “If a product seems too good to be true…it probably is.” She goes on to explain, “If a skin cream says it works better than a facelift…well, people wouldn’t be getting facelifts anymore.”
