The Role of Growth Factors in Skin Care

One of the most prominent ingredients in skin care to gain recent notoriety for anti-aging is the growth factor.  There are different types of growth factors, but human growth factors come from human cells, and work to communicate messages to cells.  When used in skin care, growth factors aid in wound healing, and help produce collagen.    Growth factors can expedite the healing process following aggressive treatments, like strong chemical peels, laser treatments, and surgery.  Studies have shown that they can be particularly helpful with anti aging as they work to produce collagen in the skin that is lost with the natural aging process.  Patients have observed a better quality of skin as the appearance of fine lines is lessened, and the overall texture and tone of the skin is improved.

Growth factors are present in many different skin care products and lines.  Concentrated serums containing growth factors can be used twice daily for full face anti aging results, and targeted eye creams containing growth factors are smaller in molecular weight are to be applied to the delicate eye area with smaller pores.  An effective skin care regimen will contain medical grade products, such as retinoids, antioxidants, and peptides, as well as growth factors.  All of these ingredients work differently in the skin to produce anti aging results, and will compliment each other when used in combination.

Normally, any skin type can tolerate and benefit from growth factors.  As they can be applied even following ablative laser treatments when the skin is in an extremely sensitive state, they can be used regularly on sensitive skin types.  To find out how to incorporate growth factors into your skin care regimen, it is important to consult with a licensed skin care professional for product recommendations and skin analysis to determine which products will be most beneficial and effective.
