Valentine’s Day Beauty Tips

Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching, and that means it’s time to amp up that beauty regimen to make sure you look your best on the big day.  Even for those not celebrating Valentine’s Day, we think you’ll enjoy reading the following beauty tips that will help your skin look healthy and radiant.  While there may only be a few days before Valentine’s Day, there are several skin care treatments you can do that won’t require any downtime.  Any time you have to prepare for a big event, follow these tips to get your skin in tip top shape.

Exfoliation is often times overlooked, but so important to having great looking skin.  Our skin typically goes through a 28 day process where the outermost layer of the epidermis is replaced by the innermost layer.  Many times, the stratum corneum, or outermost layer of the epidermis, can become thickened with multiple layers of dead, dry skin that stick together with the help of oil, makeup and other debris.  Exfoliation will help eliminate dead skin buildup from the surface of the skin to help skin look fresh and smooth.  Microdermabrasion and chemical peels are means of exfoliation, but can sometimes be associated with downtime.  I am a fan of exfoliating scrubs that can be used at home.  One of my favorites is Revision Skincare’s “Finishing Touch” Microdermabrasion Scrub for Polished Skin.  This is a stronger manual exfoliating product (as opposed to chemical exfoliating) that works at getting rid of stubborn, dry skin.  I also like to use my Clarisonic cleansing brush to further smooth out my skin.  Finally, many fruit enzyme “peel” products can provide a very mild, superficial chemical exfoliating effect without the downtime associated with traditional chemical peels.  It is best to choose one method of exfoliation and try it the morning of your big day/event.  Don’t try all of these things at once, or your skin may become irritated and sensitized.

I am also a huge advocate of eyelash and eyebrow tinting.  Everyone loves well defined and shaped brows, and dark lashes.  By tinting the brows and lashes, you will feel put together without makeup, and you won’t need to use as much makeup as normal, which is a huge time saver.  There is nothing better than waking up and feeling great without makeup.  When combined with Latisse Eyelash Enhancement, brow and lash tint can make the brows and lashes stand out even more with added length and volume from the Latisse.  Of course, it typically takes a few months to see full results with Latisse, but it’s never too late to begin using the product.

Medical grade skin care products will automatically help the skin to look its best from the inside out.  I reviewed Skin Medica’s Lytera Brightening Complex last week, and this is definitely my go-to product for immediately brighter and more even skin.  It may seem hard to believe, but when I use this product, within minutes I see unevenness, discoloration, and imperfections fade.  This cuts down on the amount of makeup I apply to my skin, saving time and effort.

Whether you are celebrating Valentine’s Day this year, or just relaxing at home, I hope you will find these tips useful.
