Large or stretched earlobes can be unappealing and affect the way you feel about yourself. This condition is most commonly noticed in older people who have become victim to sagging and stretching skin. However, having large earlobes is also a genetic factor that you can be born with.
If you’re embarrassed about the appearance of your earlobes, you can undergo an optional procedure called an otoplasty, which reduces their size.
What Takes Place During Earlobe Reduction Surgery?
Earlobe reduction surgery is a very simple and inexpensive procedure. The treatment is performed under local anesthetic. Once you’re numb, the surgeon will remove the excess earlobe tissue.
Extra care is taken to ensure that there will be little to no visible scarring. When the desired shape is achieved, Dr. Stong will close the incision with stitches.
Depending on how much contouring needs to be done, the treatment can take anywhere between 30 to 90 minutes per ear to complete.
Loboplasty Recovery
There is little to no downtime with this procedure. You can go back to work right away. There may be some swelling after the surgery, but your earlobes will heal quickly and swelling goes away after a week. You’ll then return for a follow-up to have your stitches removed.
Most scars fade gradually over a period of a few weeks after surgery. At two months post-op, once your ears have fully healed, you can get them pierced if you like.
