Blepharoplasty, Eyelid Surgery
Your eyes say quite a bit about you. They can alert people to when you feel tired, sad or angry. They light up when you are happy or excited. However, when they begin to make you look older or tired, even when you feel young and energetic, it may be time for a change. If you live in Johns Creek and wish your eyes reflected a more youthful, rested or happier appearance, consider the benefits of blepharoplasty from Kalos Facial Plastic Surgery in Atlanta.
Eyelid surgery is one of the most frequent procedures we do at Kalos. Dr. Benjamin Stong offers experience and expertise that have provided proven results for our patients that have come to us for blepharoplasty. As a dual board certified facial plastic surgeon, he has the extensive training and experience you want when searching for a qualified cosmetic surgeon. In addition to his education and years of practice in the field, Dr. Stong possesses an artistic talent and advanced techniques to ensure success for your procedure.
Blepharoplasty varies depending on the results you desire. Some of our younger patients complain that they have bags or puffiness under their eyes that make them look constantly tired. This can be remedied by a careful removal of a small pinch of skin under the eye. In some cases, no excess skin is present but fat under the lower eyelid is creating a bag or puffy appearance. Dr. Stong can simply remove a small amount of this fat, giving our patients a smoother lower eyelid and a more rested appearance.
Blepharoplasty for Combatting Aging
While blepharoplasty can be performed on younger patients, it is more popular in our aging patients that notice the evident signs of aging around the eyes. The skin and tissue around the eyes are susceptible to lines, wrinkles and sagging. The skin and tissue under the eye can sag, creating large bags and a sunken look to the eyes. Lines and wrinkles can appear as the skin loses elasticity and fat around the eyes sags. Upper and lower eyelid lifts can offer a pleasant change to the appearance of the eyes, reducing the signs of aging while making the eyes look rested and even happier.
The upper eyelid lift is the simplest of the two procedures, with a minor incision placed right in the crease of the eyelid. Dr. Stong is careful to make any incision as small as possible and in a place that will heal without any noticeable scar. The excess skin on the upper lid can be removed to lift the eye, reducing the tired or sad appearance.
For the lower eyelid lift, Dr. Stong uses the little lines under the lower lashes to make a tiny incision. This gives him access to the skin, muscles and fat under the lower lid. For those with large bags or sagging tissue under the eye, he can remove some skin and muscle tissue while changing the position of the fat layer. Often, he may suggest a fat transposition, which removes accumulated fat under the lower lid and transfers it to the corners of the eyes to smooth lines and improve the natural appearance of the eye.
If you are experiencing sagging on both eyelids, it is possible to have both eyelids lifted, giving you a more energetic and youthful appearance around the entire eye. Dr. Stong can discuss what options will give you the best results for your problem areas and answer any questions you may have about the procedure.
