The web is buzzing about The Notebook star Ryan Gosling’s rhinoplasty surgery. The star allegedly had rhinoplasty surgery prior to his rise to fame in the early 2000’s. “Before” photos do point to the fact that he underwent nose surgery, but he has undeniably always been an attractive guy. We don’t see what the big deal is about this, but maybe that’s because we work in a plastic surgery practice where rhinoplasty really is not uncommon. But some of Ryan’s fans are reportedly “upset” over the news, as they were under the impression he was born with his current nose.
We also don’t understand why this revelation would be so upsetting to anyone. Again, he has always been an attractive guy, and he is still the same Ryan; it doesn’t make any him less of himself just because he’s had plastic surgery. As it turns out, hardly anyone is born with a perfect nose, or face, or anything else for that matter. Celebrities and actors have lots of pressure to be as close to perfect as possible, which is why they make it a priority to maintain their looks. We are willing to bet that if we polled how many famous people had ever had any cosmetic work done, we would surely find that the majority had a little “help” at one point or another.
Double board certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Benjamin Stong, who is not affiliated with Ryan Gosling, stated, “From the photos, it does appear that Ryan underwent rhinoplasty surgery at some point. The bridge of his nose appears more straight and narrow, and the tip is more symmetrical. The result is a well proportioned nose that is in balance with the rest of his features.” Ryan obviously had a great surgeon who did not take away from his natural look and features.
Rhinoplasty surgery can make a big difference in someone’s overall appearance and add attractiveness to the face. It is important that the surgery is well performed, and that it does not take away from the patient’s face or features. A great rhinoplasty result should enhance the other features and create symmetry and balance.
